Why did this radiator fail?

At first glance, many assume radiator failures are simply the result of age.

In reality, the most common causes are often preventable:

• Corrosion and coolant contamination

• Dirt and debris restricting airflow

• Impact and vibration damage

• Flattened fins reducing cooling efficiency

• Lack of regular inspection and maintenance

The result?

Reduced cooling performance, increased fuel consumption, unplanned downtime & ultimately expensive equipment failures.

This radiator arrived, showing clear signs of airflow restriction and physical damage. Left untreated, these issues can significantly impact the performance and reliability of heavy equipment.

At Salzmann Radiators, we do not just repair radiators—we identify the root cause of the failure and provide long-term remanufacturing solutions that help maximise equipment life and reliability. With more than 75 years of expertise, we are proud to serve Australia's industries from our Sydney operation.

What is the most common cooling system issue you see in your fleet or equipment?
